In memoriam Alan Grant, Norm Breyfogle, Adrienne Roy, Albert De Guzman, Dennis O’Neil and George Cordeiro. I haven’t written here in a while, but it’s that time of the year. It’s also been a year since we moved to a house next to a Victorian cemetery. Before the clocks change, this week has had very dark mornings, and later in the day the light in the cemetery has been really beautiful.

Happy Birthday, Open Access! Last Sunday, the Berlin Declaration turned twenty years old (Pampel & Kindling, 2023). Its anniversary coincides with the international Open Access Week. During this action week, events promoting Open Access are organized worldwide (an overview can be found at openaccessweek.org.

We analyse samples of DataCite metadata from ten repositories that have already created >100k project IDs. The FAIR Island Project will provide working examples that demonstrate how DataCite and other existing infrastructure are being used and can be leveraged to support project-level metadata.

The processes and supports within an institution can, I’ve noticed, demand a bit of effort to change. When we speak of open scholarship or open science , many aspects tie-in or lead out from those concepts, which makes the whole prospect of institutional change quite complex.
