Inching towards the Dutch elections, increasing amounts of claims are being made about the (micro)targeting of different campaigns. Here are some: New Social Contract does not do any online ads. The Greens-Labour Party spent €323,000 - more than twice as much as the Democrats 66 (D66), who spent €153,000. The Think (Denk) Party is profiling for Turkish ethnicity. The senior 50PLUS party microtargeted on people who listen to Angerfist.

The Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) hosted their fifth Scientometrics Summer School (CS ³ ) from September 18-26, 2023 in Leiden, the Netherlands. CS ³ turns theoretical ideas into hands-on research by engaging scientometrics graduate students with data, methods, and techniques used in the field. The expectation to communicate In 2019, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research called for a cultural shift toward communicating science (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, 2019). The former Federal Minister of Education and Research, Anja Karliczek, urged scientists to communicate their research continuously and classified communication as a central task for universities and research organizations (Karliczek, 2020).

Bei ihrem Treffen am 18. und 19. September in Münster hat die RES-Community neben vielen inhaltlichen Diskussionen auch ihre interne Struktur und Organisation weiterentwickelt. Dazu gehörte die Wahl des Vorsitzes und des stellvertretenden Vorsitzes.  Mit Dr. Malte Kramer, welcher seit 2019 CRIS.NRW leitet, hat die Community einen erfahrenen Experten im Bereich Forschungsinformationssysteme (FIS) für ihren Vorsitz gewinnen können.

CWTS is an interdisciplinary institute at Leiden University with a diverse multinational academic culture. PhD candidates, early career researchers, and visiting scholars from around the world gather at CWTS to pursue their research journeys. The journey can be an inspiring yet challenging experience.

What actually happens to science when it opens up? From your perspective as a science researcher, can you describe why this perspective is important? I believe that science takes place in a social environment and certain images of science emerge or have emerged, which are questioned in many respects in a digital and now increasingly open context or are subject to tensions.
