Ole Reißmann von Spiegel Online macht in seinem Blog auf einen neuen Streit über das Verwenden von Tweets aufmerksam. Die Firma „Visual Statements“ veröffentlicht fremde Tweets zwar mit Quellenangabe, aber als Bild.
Die Kurznachrichtenplattform Twitter will nun doch das Archiv der Foto- und Videoplattform Twitpic erhalten. Die rund 800 Millionen gespeicherten Bilder sollen online verfügbar bleiben, meldet The Guardian. Der drohende Verlust eines global gewachsenen Kulturguts scheint damit abgewendet. Twitpic startete im Jahr 2008 und diente dazu, Fotos und Videos auf Twitter zu teilen.
Since 2009 I've been running a service that takes posts to the EvolDir mailing list and sends them to a Twitter stream at @EvolDir. This service was running on a local machine which has died. Rather than wait until I rebuild that server (again), I looked around for other ways to recreate this service.

Following the example of Glyn Moody, I thought I’d start a log on the tweets I send around. One never knows what’ll happen to Twitter and besides, this provides a neat place to store and find everything. So here are the tweets for July first and second: Where are we, what still needs to be done?
This anecdote made my day today. On a Drosophila researcher mailinglist, someone asked if anybody on the list had access to the Landes Bioscience journal ‘Fly‘. I replied by wondering that if #icanhazpdf on Twitter didn’t work, the days of ‘Fly’ are probably counted, with nobody subscribing.
I wrote a piece for The Systematist newsletter last year which has now been published & disseminated to members.
