It is hard to believe that we are closing in on the last few days of 2023. It has been a busy, interesting year for us. For those following along on my Ph.D. journey, I’m doing it! I finished coursework in May and I passed my preliminary exam in October. All the things I am learning enrich our business and I love that research and our business are intertwined.

Shortly following an update earlier this week, the Rogue Scholar science blog archive has updated or added two features today: better documentation and new comments.Documentation The Rogue Scholar documentation site was launched with the service but hasn't seen any updates in several months. Today I updated the platforms page, explaining what blogging platforms are used by the blogs participating in Rogue Scholar and how they are integrated.

Blogs participating in the Rogue Scholar science blog archive are now archived in the Internet Archive. Starting November 1st, Rogue Scholar is participating in the Internet Archive Archive-It service and all archived blogs can be found here. Archiving of all blog posts, associated HTML pages, and media will automatically happen every six months, with the first round of archiving well underway.

Today I am happy to announce an important milestone for the Rogue Scholar science blog archive. Starting November 1st, all blog posts from participating blogs will automatically be archived by the Internet Archive. Front Matter has signed a contract with Internet Archive to use their Archive-It service, and archiving will start in November.

The Rogue Scholar science blog archive is open to science blogs that want to be enhanced by adding long-term archiving, DOI registration, and full-text search. The currently 56 participating blogs represent a broad spectrum of topics, people, and communities. Today I want to go into more detail into one particular Rogue Scholar use case: science blogs for grant-funded projects.

The Rogue Scholar science blog archive is adding important functionality to existing science blogs. The first step after a blog has signed up with Rogue Scholar is archiving the content. This is not only needed for long-term preservation but also enables full-text search and DOI registration with meaningful metadata.
