We’re happy to announce the 3rd edition of the Workshop on Open Citations and Open Scholarly Metadata (WOOC2022) , to be held online on 5 October 2022 (h. 15-18 CEST) . It has now been two years since the last edition of the Workshop on Open Citations and Open Scholarly Metadata (WOOC2020) took place as an online event.
The initial vision Now that OpenCitations is hosting over one billion freely available scholarly bibliographic citations, this is perhaps an opportune moment to look back to the start of this initiative.
According to a press release by Springer Nature there is a new contract of the group with Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). The deal is based on the principle of “read and publish” and shall fulfill the requirements of Plan S. As noted by Springer Nature the “agreement limits the costs of publishing all UK articles open access (OA) while maintaining access to all of Springer’s subscription articles.
As part of the Open Citations project, we have been asked to review and improve the process of importing data into the Open Citations Corpus, taking the scripts from the initial project as our starting point. The current import procedure evolved from several disconnected processes and requires running multiple command line scripts and transforming the data into different intermediate formats.

Following the decision to merge the planned development of the Open Citations Corpus with the Related Work Project, described in the previous blog post, we proposed to develop one underlying data store, one data model and one RDF representation.
What is Related Work? Related Work is a user-friendly Web application developed to provide a means of browsing citation links, as the basis for a planned recommendation service for the best articles to read.

I am very pleased to announce that last year Ian Bannerman, Managing Director for Journals at Taylor & Francis, confirmed this publisher’s willingness to pilot the opening of the reference lists from articles in 29 of their subscription access journals, as well as from all of their current list of 15 Open Access journals, for inclusion in the Open Citations Corpus.
