The last “big” innovation that we could think about were smartphones, as carrying the internet permanently in our pockets was quite a change.

In our ongoing process of intentionally designing business practices, we are today introducing our equipment policy. We learned accumulating things is even easier as an organization than it is as an individual. In a phase of scaling up, new equipment is purchased, but when scaling down we are left with those physical remains.

As we see more pictures of in-person events, we too feel the pressure to “go back” to pre-pandemic conferences. Even more so, we feel the urge to institutionalize our event policy before we unlearn the lessons of the ongoing COVID pandemic.

[The PubMed Central International (PMCI) network is a collaborative effort between the PMCI repositories, publishers, and funding organisations that wish to preserve and provide free access to journal articles authored by the researchers they support. For many years, the PMCI network has consisted of three nodes, PMC USA, Europe PMC and PMC Canada.

Last week, I spent two days at a symposium entitled “Governance, Performance & Leadership of Research and Public Organizations“. The meeting gathered professionals from all walks of science and research: economists, psychologists, biologists, epidemiologists, engineers, jurists as well as politicians, university presidents and other leaders of the most respected research organizations in Germany.

More than 300 Cochrane Systematic Reviews, funded under the 2007 and 2010 UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Programme Grant programmes, are available on Europe PMC. This has been a collaborative project between Cochrane, Wiley, and the Europe PMC team, and has enabled us to make this subset of full-text reviews available to access for free via Europe PMC with the functionality that papers in Europe PMC enjoy.
