Universities in the Leiden Ranking 2023 As Figure 1 shows, the number of universities in the Leiden Ranking keeps increasing. Like in the last three editions of the ranking, a university needs to have at least 800 fractionally counted publications in the most recent four-year time window to be included in the ranking. This year 1411 universities meet this criterion, 93 more than last year and 235 more than in 2020.

At university, I was trained to have ideas — to see gaps in between the individual pieces of knowledge, and to seize them as opportunities to move the needle forward. Ideas are a currency, yet executing on those ideas feels undervalued. I am grateful for the years I spent training that kind of creativity. It still brings me joy to have or learn about ideas that make me shift my perspective.

In our ongoing process of intentionally designing business practices, we are today introducing our equipment policy. We learned accumulating things is even easier as an organization than it is as an individual. In a phase of scaling up, new equipment is purchased, but when scaling down we are left with those physical remains.

Im Rahmen der 16. Berliner Open-Access-Konferenz der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, die aktuell unter dem Titel “Together for Transformation” Berlin stattfindet, wurden gestern Leitlinien von Bund und Ländern zu Open Access vorgestellt. Diese Leitlinien wurden von der Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK) im März verabschiedet. Auf der Webseite der KMK findet sich eine knappe Pressemitteilung zu dem Papier.
