The [Company of Biologists](http://www.biologists.com/) has
[announced](http://open.biologists.com/announcement.html) BIOLOGY OPEN
(BiO), a new online only, Open Access journal publishing original
research across all aspects of the biological sciences including cell
science, developmental biology and experimental biology.

Launching in Autumn 2011, BiO aims to "*provide rapid publication for
peer reviewed, scientifically sound observations and valid conclusions
in these allied fields.  By focusing on the timely publication of sound
research rather than that with perceived impact or
importance, ***Biology Open*** is designed to facilitate dialogue and
build a valuable body of work supporting the efforts of the research
community.  The impact of each paper will be decided by the community
through usage and discussion.  *

*The journal will also consider useful reports of negative results. 
Authors will be able to submit direct or benefit from our manuscript
rapid-transfer system if their original submission was to one of The
Company of Biologists' flagship journals,*** Development***, ***Disease
Models & Mechanisms***, ***Journal of Cell Science*** and ***The Journal
of Experimental Biology****".

The APC for articles which are published in BiO has been set at
\$1,350.  Accepted papers will be deposited in
[PMC](http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/) at the time of publication and
mirrored to [UKPMC](http://ukpmc.ac.uk/).

The [Company of Biologists](https://journals.biologists.com/jcs) (COB)
-- publishers of *[Development](https://journals.biologists.com/dev)*
and *[Journal of Cell Science](https://journals.biologists.com/jcs)* --
has [developed](http://www.biologists.com/access.html) an open access
("gold") option, which meets the requirements of the [UKPMC Funders'
Group](http://ukpmc.ac.uk/Funders/).

For a fee of £1350, the COB will deposit the final version of the
article in PubMed Central (at the time of publication) and allow these
articles to be re-used in accordance with the [Creative Commons
Attribution, non-commercial, share-alike
licence](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/legalcode).

From January 2011, [all]{.underline} content for *[Disease Models &
Mechanisms](https://journals.biologists.com/dmm)* will be Open Access.
The Article Processing Cost (APC) for this title is also £1350 (plus VAT
if applicable).
