Earlier this month I gave this talk in my department. It is basically a summary of two blog posts that I wrote in October during Open Access Week (Open Access Week: a researcher's perspective part I and part II), and I had given a similar talk in November in an Open Access workshop organized by the Helmholtz Association.

What has been happening in the world of Open Access in the last week? SPARC announces the theme for the 2014 International Open Access Week in October to be “Generation Open.” The event will highlight the importance of encouraging the younger population to become involved with the mainstream adoption of Open Access publishing. Young adults are a critical and vital target demographic for the Button.

What has been happening in the world of Open Access in the last week? We’re launching the new Open Access Button on Tuesday October 21st! Our website and app as it is now is will temporarily disappear, don’t worry though it’ll be back in Open Access Week! As we prepare for the upcoming Open Access Week, the Electronic Frontier Foundation provides some resources and strategies to get involved in the movement.

What has been happening in the world of Open Access in the last week? The Open Access Button has announced that it will be launching the new Button during Open Access Week 2014 and is looking for partners to host launch events. Science Advances , a new Open Access journal, responded to the open letter from researchers expressing their concerns with the journal’s policies, with a FAQ.
