The team at EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) and their coalition at large have been doing stelar work in the repository and Open Access world for many years. So, when Iryna Kuchma (one of our original steering committee members) asked us to give a webinar on ShareYourPaper.org For Libraries we were honored. This month, we released ShareYourPaper.org for Libraries. Leila Sterman co-designed ShareYourPaper.org and the version for libraries as the Scholarly Communication Librarian and an Assistant Professor at Montana State University Library. As 2020 came to an end, Jake Orlowitz caught up with her. How did you get started in librarianship? What's your current role? It was a meandering path to scholcomm.

Making time for a change. Every semester we seem to run through the same lists of why “this is a really busy time”: the semester starts, holiday weekends, midterms, admissions deadlines, grant deadlines, finals. We all know the list.

Journalcheckertool.org helps you understand how you can make your work Open Access and comply with Plan S for your personal combination of publishing venue, affiliation, and funder. It’s released in beta today, and we’d love your feedback! One important part of this is finding out if you can self-archive your work, which is where we’re proud to say Shareyourpaper.org Permissions comes in. More on that here.

After an extensive competitive search, we’re proud to announce that cOAlition S, an international consortium of research funders working towards making full and immediate Open Access a reality, has chosen Shareyourpaper.org Permissions to supply self-archiving policy data for their new Plan S Journal Checker Tool. Shareyourpaper.org Permissions is our new open source automated permissions checking system.

We’ve been lucky enough to have many people review our tools over the years, and we appreciate them all.

There are major updates to our tools and data to make permissions checking easier, faster, and clearer for libraries on our new website, with their new name, “Shareyourpaper.org Permissions.” On the new website you’ll find our new API, streamlined bulk permissions checking spreadsheets, a larger open dataset, and more details about how we’re doing permissions checking.

The Coronavirus pandemic has shown how critical it is that research is shared quickly and freely. We can’t go back to “b̶u̶s̶i̶n̶e̶s̶s̶ research as usual” and keep locking up the world’s research behind paywalls. That’s why we’re proud to debut Shareyourpaper.org to make it easy to share your work for anyone to read — freely and legally.

Introducing shareyourpaper.org , the simplest way for authors to legally self-archive and for your library to fill your repository. Self-archiving needs to be simpler to unleash its power as an equitable route to open access. Yet, it’s too hard for individual repositories to overhaul their existing user experience.
