We first introduced our Coworking andOffice Hour sessions in August 2021 after a successful pilot of several’label-athon’s in the April and May prior. We’ve had a successful couple of years since then and the coworking sessionshave evolved into themed events with different community hosts and me asa facilitator. It’s been a lovely change and we thought it was time to share these updates with the rOpenSci community! 🎉 What are these sessions?

rOpenSci community calls are online events with the fundamental goal of strengthening our community.

The rOpenSci community is supported by our Code of Conduct with a clear description of unacceptable behaviors, instructions on how to make a report, and information on how reports are handled. We, the Code of Conduct Committee, are responsible for receiving, investigating, deciding, enforcing and reporting on all reports of potential violations of our Code.

Our community is our best asset. It’s so important to us, it’s in our mission statement. We recognize that communities are not inclusive by default; they require deliberate attention, including an enforceable Code of Conduct. rOpenSci is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and harassment-free experience for everyone.

For this Community Call, we’re trying something different. We’ll start with a short talk by Julia Silge , then spend most of the time on Q & A with four panelists - Elin Waring , Erin Grand , Leonardo Collado-Torres , and Scott Chamberlain - moderated by Julia. Our panelists bring a wide range of perspectives so there’s something for everyone.

One year ago, we released our new Code of Conduct. At that time, the Code of Conduct Committee (authors of this post) agreed to do an annual review of the text, reporting form, and our internal guidelines. We have made one change to the Code of Conduct text.
