The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, published today, includes 12 Dutch universities, of which five are ranked in the top 100 worldwide. One prominent Dutch university, Utrecht University, is not included in the ranking. Last year this university decided to discontinue submitting data to the THE World University Rankings.

English version below . Vorige week werd in de Rijksbegroting een halvering van het budget van Open Science NL aangekondigd. Open Science NL, een zogeheten regieorgaan van NWO, heeft als opdracht om de transitie naar open science in Nederland te stimuleren en versnellen, met als doel dat open science de norm wordt. Het budget van Open Science NL wordt verlaagd van 20 miljoen naar 10 miljoen euro per jaar.

However, as I discuss in this recent presentation, this distinction faces unresolved questions. I am a member of the Society for Improvement of Psychological Science (SIPS) – have been since 2017. I joined their yearly conferences every other year starting in 2017, but I will not be joining the 2025 conference in Budapest, Hungary. For me, the big selling point of SIPS are the people – the location choice for 2025 (unintentionally) signals that some people are less important.
