PKP celebrates Open Education Week by sharing open monographs and textbooks published using its free, community-driven software, Open Monograph Press (OMP). UPDATE: This post was updated March 6th, 2025 for #OEWeek25.
Open Education Week is an annual, global event dedicated to advocating for access to and reach of education. Those working in Open Education have the opportunity to share their projects, resources, and achievements. PKP is known for facilitating public knowledge, and we are pleased to join the celebration.
The event raises awareness among educators, practitioners, and students. However, PKP takes a moment to highlight the importance of open infrastructure as a driver of open education initiatives. Specifically, PKP's community-driven free software, Open Monograph Press (OMP), is providing educators around the globe with a quality option for publishing Open Education Resources (OERs).
Leveraging Open Monograph Press (OMP) for Open Education
What is Open Monograph Press (OMP)? OMP is the full, end-to-end solution for publishing books with full metadata, enabling global dissemination and discovery. A single, intuitive workflow guides the entire process, from submissions to reviewing to publishing.
OMP is not the product of a few minds at a single institution. Rather, it is developed and maintained by a world-wide community of contributors with diverse knowledge, expertise, and needs. Contributors come together via PKP, which is a community-governed project that calls Simon Fraser University its institutional home as an SFU Core Research Facility. That said, OMP (or any PKP software), is not, and never will be "for sale."

Who's using OMP?
Educators use OMP around the world, thus it is impossible to showcase all of them here! Let's start with an example from the PKP website, and then take a small tour around the globe.
Heidelberg University Publishing runs an open access publishing service using OMP. They publish about 150 open access monographs and edited volumes every year. Further, they are home to heiBOOKS, and three specialist information services, namely Art – Photography – Design, Ancient History (Propylaeum) and South Asia (FID4SA).

For the rest of the tour, images and links are from the publishers' web catalogues. Quotes are from the publishers' "About" pages.
