I Still Haven't Found What I'm Googling For

Feature image

Irish GoogleTwenty one years ago this month, in May 1987, Irish rockers U2 released their classic Joshua Tree single, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. Those twenty one years have seen incredible technological change: the adoption of desktop computers, mobile phones, the birth of the Web and the widespread use of search engines like Google. So with sincere apologies to Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry, it's time we updated the lyrics for the 21st century. So, I give you "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Googling For" (21st anniversary, 2008 webby edition)…

I have climbed the highest mountain
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you.

I have run, I have perled
I have scaled these webby walls
These webby walls
Only to be with you.

But I still haven't found what I'm googling for
But I still haven't found what I'm googling for

I have kissed honey lisp
Felt the healing in her finger tips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone.

But I still haven't found what I'm googling for
But I still haven't found what I'm googling for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the data will bleed into one
Bleed into one.
But yes, I'm still blogging.

You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Oh my shame, you know I believe it.

But I still haven't found what I'm googling for
But I still haven't found what I'm googling for.
