PKP's free and open source software (FOSS) version 3.4 for OJS, OMP & OPS: A sneak-peek
Creators

PKP released development updates in December. In advance of releasing the Open Journal Systems (OJS), Open Monograph Press (OMP), and Open Preprint Systems (OPS) software in version 3.4 this year, the PKP team offers a sneak-peek of what to expect, why they are most excited for the community, and some personal insights from their own work on the Project.
Alec Smecher, PKP's Development Associate Director, has been working on the Project since 2005.

"I'm excited to release a tremendous amount of work the team has put into modernizing the OJS, OMP, and OPS codebases. We're adding foreign key enforcement, namespaces, updating dependencies, etc. This might sound nerdy but you'll see it in better performance, fresher looks, cleaner upgrades, and a lot more to come."
Bozana Bokan, Software Developer & Distribution Lead, has been working on the Project since 2016, currently with a focus on metadata and distribution.

"I am looking forward to seeing the refactored usage statistics and DOI framework in use. Better statistics integration in the UI makes analysis and application of usage statistics easier. The new COUNTER R5 support helps users comply with the current standard, and enables institutional statistics. The new DOI implementation helps editors to handle all DOI related tasks from the central DOI management page much easier than before."
Nate Wright, Software Developer, and Workflow Lead has this to say about improvements to editorial workflow in 3.4:

"I can't wait to see how editors like our new step-by-step interface for recording editorial decisions. It features a new email composer that makes it easier to draft emails, attach files, and make use of email templates in any language."
Devika Goel, UX/UI Designer, has been concentrating on design and user research, user experience, interface design, usability testing and design analysis for the 3.4 release.

"I'm looking forward to everyone experiencing the improvements to the workflow for recording Editorial Decisions and making a New Submission. I believe the insights collected from usability tests have increased accessibility, eliminated complications, and made the interface for these journeys more intuitive."
