Internationalisation of New Open Access Initiatives

A quick plug for a blog post by a member of OLH's internationalisation committee, Erika Corradini. In her piece, The Languages of Academic Publishing, Erika writes:

My opinion is that while it is desirable and practical to work in a lingua franca (I use it myself every day) it is essential to widening access and engaging scholars and research communities worldwide that a plurality of voices is supported across all fields of research. More than ever in the past, there is a desire in the academic world to use online tools to the benefit of scholars and in collaboration with the publishers and libraries which manage and make content available. There is no one solution to this conundrum. But a number of different approaches can be discussed for adoption in collaboration with the various parties interested. A likely internationalisation strategy will have to involve traditional as well as innovative approaches in a combination of translation processes and other multilingual tools which may be useful to reaching out to non-English audiences and readerships, raise interest and increase multilingual participation in the global scholarly community… and I look forward to discussing as yet unexplored possibilities.
